Frequently asked

Which big companies are buying electrical contractors?

The largest deals come from public companies. MasTec closed a deal valued at about $1.65 billion for Columbus, Ohio's The Superior Group in July 2026. EMCOR paid $865 million in cash for Jacksonville-based Miller Electric (closed February 2025). Sterling Infrastructure bought Irving, Texas-based CEC Facilities Group for $505 million upfront (closed September 2025). Quanta Services bought San Jose's Cupertino Electric (July 2024) and Davenport, Iowa's Tri-City Group (fourth quarter of 2025). Comfort Systems USA bought Feyen Zylstra (Grand Rapids, MI) and Meisner Electric (Boca Raton, FL) on October 1, 2025, then Utah-based R.C. Hunt Electric on May 1, 2026. MYR Group closed its purchase of Valley Electric (Everett, WA) and Comet Electric (Chatsworth, CA) on July 1, 2026.

Which private-equity groups buy electrical contractors most often?

Norlee Group, backed by Heartwood Partners since October 2024, announced its eighth add-on, IEM Electric of Hickory, NC, in October 2026. CAI Capital Partners' GreenArrow has bought transportation electrical contractors in California, Florida, New Jersey and Pennsylvania since 2024. Kohlberg-backed Loenbro bought Prism Electric, which has about 2,500 employees, in September 2026. Apollo-backed The State Group added J&J Electric (Kokomo, IN) in December 2025 and Ruder Electric (Kankakee, IL) in February 2026.

Will my company keep its name and team after a sale?

Often, yes. Powell Electric keeps its brand under Champions Group, and Forward Electric keeps operating under its own name in Madison after joining Waldinger. At Scholes Electric, CEO Edward Welsh continues to lead the business under Prime Electric. Norlee says Inter-Bay Electric will continue under its current leadership. Some buyers integrate fully instead: in March 2026 Loenbro moved Switch Electric, Revolution Industrial, Stewart Electric and Weifield Group under a single Loenbro brand.

Do buyers only want large electrical contractors?

No. Waldinger bought Springfield, Missouri's Trinity Electric, which had 12 union electricians, in January 2025. In June 2025 it bought St. Louis's Summit Electric and kept all nine of its team members. Forward Electric in Madison, WI had 50 employees when it joined Waldinger in August 2026. At the large end, Prism Electric brought about 2,500 employees to Loenbro.

Can I sell to an employee-owned company?

Yes. Sundt Construction, which calls itself 100% employee-owned, bought Phoenix-based Industrial Power Solutions in May 2026. IPS's founder said the deal brings employee ownership to its 200-plus employees.

Are residential electrical companies being bought too?

Yes, mostly by home-services platforms that cover several trades. Champions Group, which Blackstone agreed to buy in February 2026, bought Southern California residential electrician Powell Electric in August 2026. Astara Capital-owned Del-Air bought Orlando's Keystone Energy & Power for its residential new-construction division in March 2025. Gemspring-backed AMPAM bought Seal Electric, a multifamily electrical contractor, in April 2025.

Methodology & sources

Compiled on October 5, 2026 from acquirer and sponsor press releases, SEC filings, PE portfolio pages, sell-side adviser deal pages and trade press. An adversarial check re-read every source the draft cited. Each platform's owner was checked for a 2025-2026 sale or recapitalization, and searches for missed consolidators added three public acquirers. Deals are limited to named U.S. electrical contractors announced or closed in 2024-2026, with each target's location given as its source states it. Where no source states a city, the field gives only the state or region. Utility transmission and substation, testing-only, low-voltage and technology-integration targets were left out, as were multi-trade (mechanical, electrical and plumbing) targets. About 87 pages were fetched and read in full, plus about 25 sources read as Parallel search excerpts. Three Cascade Partners PDFs and four Business Wire pages blocked direct fetching.
