Frequently asked
How many garage door companies are private equity firms buying?
PitchBook counted 29 PE-backed garage door deals in 2024, a record, and 26 in 2025, both including add-ons. Through Sept. 28, 2026 it had recorded 21 more, worth $4.2 billion in total. Guild Garage Group alone announced its 32nd partnership in September 2026.
What multiple will my garage door company sell for?
For small owner-run companies, HedgeStone Business Advisors puts the range at 2.5x-4.5x SDE and 3.8x-7x EBITDA, and Tupelo puts it at 1.78x-5.00x SDE. Market participants told PitchBook that shops with less than $10 million in revenue typically trade at 2x-6x EBITDA. The headline numbers, about 16x-18x EBITDA for Guild and about 20x for A1, were paid for national platforms, not single shops.
How big does my business need to be to interest these buyers?
A1 Garage Door Service says it wants mostly residential repair-and-replace businesses that have been in their market for 10+ years and consistently bring in more than $1.5 million a year. Vortex Doors, a commercial buyer, asks for revenue above $1 million and earnings above $300,000. FMI says 90% of the industry's 15,000+ independent operators have less than $10 million in revenue.
Do I keep my company name and a stake after selling?
It depends on the buyer. Guild lets owners keep running their business, and FMI says its model lets operators keep equity and earn distributions. GarageCo keeps local names, as with Dan's Overhead Doors and Thomas V. Giel Corporation. A1 typically buys the entire business, decides on branding within about two months of closing, and moves the business onto ServiceTitan.
How long does a sale take?
A1 lays out a 12-week process from first contact to closing and says closing typically takes 1.5 to 2 months after a letter of intent is signed. HedgeStone says most garage door business sales close within 60 to 180 days of going to market.
Are buyers interested in commercial overhead door companies too?
Yes. DuraServ (Leonard Green & Partners), Vortex Doors (Warren Equity Partners), US Dock & Door (Soundcore Capital Partners) and C&D Industrial Maintenance (Crescentia Capital) all buy commercial overhead door and loading-dock service companies. PassCo, backed by Halle Capital, bought Southeastern Overhead Door in Baton Rouge in June 2026. FMI says platforms are adding dock equipment, access controls and gate systems to garage doors.
Methodology & sources
Compiled Oct 5, 2026 and checked adversarially the same day. Every source URL in the draft was fetched again and read: acquirer and sponsor press releases (PR Newswire, Business Wire, PRWeb), sponsor portfolio pages, acquirer websites, Reuters and PitchBook reporting, and FMI's March 2026 sector brief. Parallel Search was then used to check each owner for a 2025-2026 sale, recap or merger and to look for consolidators the draft missed. Deal locations are as each release states them. Anything undated or without a stated location was left blank rather than guessed. Guild Garage Group deals before April 2026 are typed Private equity because Guild was then self-funded by founders who are former PE professionals; that is the closest of the allowed types. Manufacturers, automatic-pedestrian-door companies and non-US platforms are excluded.
