Frequently asked

Who is actually buying freight brokerages right now?

Mid-market buyers do most of the deals. FitzMark (Calera Capital) has bought four brokers since March 2025, and calls its September 2026 purchase of United Transportation Services its 11th transaction. Fura's August 2026 purchase of High Rise Logistics was its seventh acquisition. BlueGrace (Warburg Pincus) and Redwood (AEA Investors) each bought several 3PLs in 2025-26. At the top end, Echo Global Logistics closed its purchase of ITS Logistics in March 2026, and C.H. Robinson agreed on October 5, 2026 to buy RXO for $5.8 billion.

Is private equity still buying 3PLs and freight brokers?

Yes. Capstone Partners counted 23 PE-sponsored 3PL deals in the first part of 2026 (its June 2026 update), eight more than a year earlier, and said PE deal flow has grown every year since 2023. Recent deals by investment firms include Thoma Bravo and WWEX Group (closed June 2026), Greenbriar and eShipping (January 2026), Greenbriar and AIT (agreed February 2026), Quad-C and Armstrong Transport Group (June 2026), Argosy and K&L Freight Management (July 2026), and Mubadala Capital and Arrive Logistics (agreed August 2026).

I run an agent office for a larger 3PL. Do these buyers acquire agents?

Some do. Radiant Logistics has repeatedly bought its own agent offices, such as Houston's Universal Logistics, which had run under Radiant's Airgroup brand since 2001. In August 2026 Radiant started an agent program in truck brokerage and intermodal that it says gives agency owners 'a built-in path to long-term liquidity.' Trinity Logistics bought Granite Logistics, its freight agent of nearly 14 years, and BlueGrace bought Truk TMS, which had been a BlueGrace partner.

Will my brand and team survive a sale?

Often, according to the announcements, but not always. LoadDelivered still operates under its own brand at Logistics Plus. The AGL Group became a wholly owned PLS Logistics subsidiary, and its CEO stayed on. LG Logistics Solutions' founder and his staff still run daily operations under Fura, as does High Rise Logistics' leadership team. On the other hand, Red Arrow Logistics was renamed Allstates WorldCargo after it was bought.

How are these deals usually paid?

Most buyers don't disclose terms. Radiant Logistics does: it pays part of the expected price for an acquired agent office later, based on how that business performs after the sale (an earn-out).

How busy is logistics M&A?

Deal counts dropped and then picked up again. PMCF counted 121 U.S. transportation and logistics deals in 2025, down 28% from 168 in 2024. Capstone Partners reports that 3PL deals in early 2026 were up 20% from a year earlier, to 48. Purchases of trucking and 3PL businesses offering managed transportation tripled, to 19.

Methodology & sources

Compiled on October 5, 2026 from press releases by acquirers, targets and investment firms; FreightWaves coverage; and market data from Capstone Partners, PMCF, Armstrong & Associates (via Supply Chain 24/7) and Draylo. In the verification pass, every cited platform, deal and statistic was re-read against its source page (91 full pages fetched), and 29 further searches checked for 2025-26 sales, recapitalizations and missing acquirers. Every platform owner was checked for a 2025-26 change. Each deal's location comes from its source and is left at state level where the source gives only a state. Targets outside the U.S. are left out. Platform revenue is not included.
