Frequently asked

Who is buying water, fire and mold restoration companies?

Mostly platforms backed by private equity. Buyers active since 2024 include Guardian Restoration Partners (Alpine Investors, 14 acquisitions from April 2024 through 2025), American Restoration (Morgan Stanley Capital Partners), Fortify Companies (Summit Partners), BMS CAT (AEA Investors), Summit Restoration Group (Point 41), Forge Restoration (Seaside Equity Partners) and Right Restoration Partners (Percheron). ATI Restoration (family-run, backed by TSG Consumer Partners) and publicly traded FirstService, which owns First Onsite and Paul Davis, also bought companies in 2024.

What multiple will my restoration company sell for?

Restoration Brokers of America's Q2 2025 update puts adjusted-earnings multiples at 2x to 3x for $100K to $500K of earnings, rising to 6x to 7.5x above $3M. Peak Business Valuation reports average multiples of 2.34x to 3.55x seller's discretionary earnings (SDE) and 3.24x to 4.31x EBITDA. Breakwater M&A cites 3x to 4x EBITDA for small owner-run shops and 6.5x to 8x for platform-ready companies.

What makes a restoration company worth more to a buyer?

Breakwater M&A says mitigation-led companies earn premiums over reconstruction-heavy ones, diversified referral sources price best, and Xactimate-fluent estimators are the scarce talent. It adds that heavy reliance on one third-party administrator (TPA) program, or on the owner's personal carrier relationships, leads buyers to demand more earnout. HedgeStone says businesses with documented systems and low owner dependency reach the top of the range.

How much of the price is paid at closing?

Breakwater M&A's 2026 report says sellers should expect 65% to 75% cash at close. Earnouts tied to carrier-program retention and revenue sustainability cover the rest over 12 to 24 months.

Do I have to sell all of my company?

Not always. When Brenton Point Capital Partners made a growth investment in Merit Restorations in June 2026, co-founder Casey Chapman kept an ownership stake. TSG Consumer Partners invested in ATI Restoration in 2020 and the Moore family retained ownership. Knox Lane bought a majority stake in HighGround Restoration Group in March 2025, and Solid Restoration's founder kept a significant stake when Timoneer took a majority in February 2024.

Are restoration franchisees being acquired too?

Yes. Liberty Restoration Group, a ServiceMaster Restore franchisee, bought ServiceMaster of Columbia (MO) in April 2026 and ServiceMaster Restoration Services by KRS (Peoria and Bloomington, IL, and Milwaukee) in August 2026. Hidden River invested in ServiceMaster of Tacoma in January 2025. Orangewood-backed SERVPRO Global DRT bought Live Oak Restoration in Charleston, SC in March 2024. Azalea Capital added Rainbow Restoration franchisees ASAP Response (May 2025) and Old Dominion (December 2025) to Southeastern Restoration Holdings. Paul Davis also bought back its own Cleveland and Akron franchise in April 2026.

Methodology & sources

Compiled in October 2026, then checked adversarially. The check re-read every cited platform, deal, market and multiples source: sponsor portfolio pages, deal press releases, restoration trade press (R&R, C&R, Cleanfax), and EdgePoint's flash report built on PitchBook data. Every platform owner was re-checked for a 2025-2026 sale or recap, and about 35 more Parallel searches looked for missed consolidators. Multiples come from four published broker and valuation sources. American Restoration's own brand directory gives only the year a brand partnered (2024-2026), so the 15 deals taken from it have a blank month.
