Frequently asked
Who is buying security integrators right now?
Mostly private-equity platforms. Capstone Partners counted 41 Pye-Barker Fire & Safety (Altas Partners) acquisitions in 2025, and SDM's 2026 Top Systems Integrators report puts it at 57. Security Today reported that Security 101 (Morgan Stanley Capital Partners) completed six acquisitions in 2026. Cobalt Service Partners (Alpine Investors) reached 21 acquisitions by July 2026. Zeus Fire and Security (Access Holdings), Minuteman (Tenex), Convergint, Everon (GTCR) and Guardian Alarm (Certares) also bought integrators in 2025-2026.
What multiple will my security integration company sell for?
Peak Business Valuation puts security alarm companies at 2.15x–3.20x SDE and 3.05x–4.90x EBITDA. NextGen Live Security quotes 4.0x–6.0x EBITDA for systems-integration tuck-ins and 7.0x–9.0x for platforms. BizBuySell says half of security businesses sell for 1.95x–3.29x seller's discretionary earnings, with a $750,000 median sale price. That BizBuySell category also includes guard companies.
Are strategic and family-owned companies still buying, or only private equity?
Both. Capstone Partners counted private equity add-ons as 45.9% of 2025 Security Solutions deals and private strategics as 34.3%. Recent strategic deals include Securitas Technology buying Sonitrol of El Paso (Oct 2026) and APi Group buying Evergreen Fire and Security in Tacoma (Sep 2026). Family-owned examples include American Alarm buying Instant Signal & Alarm in Salem, MA (Aug 2025) and Per Mar buying Accu-Com in Oshkosh, WI (Jan 2025).
Does recurring monthly revenue (RMR) change what buyers pay?
Yes. NextGen Live Security puts monitoring books at 32x–36x monthly RMR for companies under $50K of RMR and 42x–55x above $500K. It says companies with software-anchored RMR trade at 12x–15x EBITDA, against 4x–6x for legacy hardware installers.
Do fire protection companies buy security integrators?
Yes. Several of the most active buyers are fire-led platforms that also buy alarm and security firms. Pye-Barker bought Union AlarmTronic in Springfield, NJ (Sep 2026). Summit Fire & Security bought Safeco Alarm Systems in Kingston, NY (Jul 2025). RapidFire Safety & Security bought Pro-Alarm in Marine, IL (Jun 2026). Zeus Fire and Security bought SEi in Omaha, NE (Jun 2026). APi Group bought Evergreen Fire and Security in Tacoma, WA (Sep 2026).
Is deal activity rising or falling?
Rising. Capstone Partners reported that Security Solutions M&A rose 24.1% in 2025 to 242 deals. SDM reported on nearly 100 acquisitions in 2025, about 65% of them in the second half. New platforms keep forming: Knox Lane took a majority stake in SAGE Integration in Sep 2026.
Methodology & sources
Compiled in October 2026 from acquirer and sponsor press releases, trade press (SDM, Security Systems News, Security Sales & Integration, Security Today) and advisor and valuation reports. An adversarial check then re-read every platform, deal, statistic and multiple source and searched every platform for a 2025-2026 sale, recap or continuation vehicle. SDM's 2026 Top Systems Integrators report was used to cross-check rankings, HQ cities and acquisition footnotes. The deal list has 58 named US targets from 2024 to October 2026 and favors deals with a sourced location. It is not a census, and further sourced deals were left out.
